The Most SPOOK-tacular Halloween Packaging Designs of 2021

Our Favorite 5 Halloween Packaging Designs

We probably all have fond memories of Halloween as kids. Memories of getting dressed-up and of course, trick or treating! Do you remember your favorite candy to bring home? Your favorite candy as a kid probably had more to do with the delicious sugar fix than anything else. As an adult, while you still may love the sweet treats, you may also have a new appreciation for the effort that goes into making spooky treats appealing - even before you take that first sweet bite.

As adults and designers, the ICEY team loves looking at the designs brands create each holiday season. We love to be inspired by other creative minds while getting into the holiday spirit. Are you ready to see our favorite spook-tacular finds?

Cadbury Screme Eggs

Cadbury has one of the most recognizable designs when it comes to holiday treats. Although, that holiday usually isn’t Halloween so we were curious to see what spooky surprises the Easter experts were hiding. All we can say is - the experts on candy eggs (and the brand with the cutest living mascot) seriously delivered this spooky season!

We love that Cadbury maintained what their brand is known for - the creme egg. Playing off of the spelling of their original Cadbury Creme Egg, they created a clear nod to the season with their Screme Egg. Replacing the traditional yellow center with green, while also adding green slime to the packaging, further enhances this spooky treat.

While the obvious Halloween colors are black and orange, Cadbury maintained their rich purple. A color that often gets overlooked for Halloween, sticking with purple is the perfect blend of staying on brand and appealing to the season. While the bunny isn’t included in the actual packaging, Cadbury gets serious points for dressing up their mascot to help advertise.

Kit Kat Witch’s Brew

Kit Kat went spooky this Halloween by testing out a new design, and a new flavor! We love the choice of colors for this design and how it reflects the new flavor: Witch’s Brew. The green witch brewing up tasty treats is a nice nod to one of the most famous witches - The Wicked Witch of the West. Carrying the green through the rest of the package and complementing it with the purple nicely ties the entire package design together.

While Kit Kat created a brand new color scheme and design for this seasonal product, they do a great job of including their traditional logo. The traditional logo set against the new backdrop creates an almost nostalgic feel. Combined with the nod to the Wizard of Oz in the green witch, we love this new flavor and design that still feels familiar.

Hershey’s Vampire Kisses

Everyone knows and loves Hershey’s Kisses. They are probably one of the most recognizable chocolate treats in the world. That type of recognition is the result of strong branding that Hershey stays consistent with, even when adding in a holiday spin.

From the red and black coloring, plus the spooky font for Vampire, these bags of vampire kisses serve serious Halloween vibes! We love the creative mind that turned a Hershey Kiss into a vampire - a poetic take on a Vampire’s Kiss. The ever popular purple this season makes an appearance here as well! Hershey’s choice in using a bold purple + red combo for the individual kisses. Moving away from the expected black bat, this color combo maintains the vampire color scheme and theme from first sight to last bite.

Chester Cheeto Madness

From original to flaming hot, Cheetos are a well known and loved crunchy snack. What about cinnamon and sugar Cheetos? Cinnamon and sugar is a new flavor combo for Cheetos, but the creative genius behind this packaging makes sure we know that this new flavor still has all the original crunch and taste we love and expect from the brand.

Cheetos may not be the first thing you think of when it comes to Halloween, but a literal bag of bones brought to you by the Mad Scientist Chester Cheeto is all we need to give it a try.

Welch’s Spooky Snacks

While trick or treating is generally known for candy treats, a lot of brands are getting in on the holiday by branding non-traditional snacks as Halloween treats. Welch’s does this by creating a simple nod to Halloween, while continuing to appeal to the parents who have known and trusted them for decades as the go-to for healthy juices and snacks.

Similar to Cadbury, Welch’s maintains their brand colors sticking with a strong purple. While incorporating their colors into a spirited Halloween background, they continue to allow what their brand is known for to be the focus. A ghost that states “REAL FRUIT!” opposite from a “Tricker Treats” lets parents know these are the perfect healthy way for their kids to celebrate the holiday.

Whether you choose something chocolatey, crunchy, or fruity, we hope you enjoy the creative genius behind the packaging for all your Halloween treats this season!
